4 Ideas for Adding Finishing Touches to a New Kitchen

Posted on

After a new kitchen installation or a renovation, it is important to get the right finishing touches for the kitchen. This adds style, color and an improved level of attention to detail that your guests will admire. This is especially the case if you design and make the finishing touches yourself. Let's look at some ideas to finish off a newly renovated kitchen.

Create a Mobile

A hanging mobile in a quiet area in the kitchen can look stylish and add some detail to the room. Many people favor bird mobiles, but they can be any design you like. For example, you may wish to use small cupcakes or even small wine bottles as a mobile. Try visiting a craft shop to see if you can get the parts to make your own unique mobile.

Make Blind Pulls

If you have a set of blinds in the kitchen, a great way to add a finishing touch is by creating and adding your own blind pull. Buy some differently colored and shaped wooden blocks, and arrange them to make a unique and colorful pull for raising or lowering the blinds. You will need to drill a small hole through each block, so it can be tied to the string of the blind. If you don't fancy wooden blocks, you can substitute many items; just make sure you can grip them to open the blinds when needed. This adds a real individual finishing touch to the kitchen.

Fabricate a Bookend

This is a great idea for keeping the cookbooks together on a shelf in the kitchen. The next time you are out walking, start to collect some nicely shaped, small stones. Gather them all together, and spray them a gold or silver color. Once they have dried, you can arrange them at the end of the bookshelf, to create a colorful and unique bookend for your books.

Add Your Own Art

Many people like to have a piece of colorful and exotic art in their kitchen. A single painting can add a great amount of style and elegance to the kitchen, so it is a good idea to add your own. Instead of spending a small fortune on an existing painting (or to hire a professional painter), try doing it yourself. You can buy all of the paint and materials at crafts shops, usually inexpensively. Then, spend an evening creating a colorful and exotic piece of art for your kitchen.

With a little time and effort, many unique and individual finishing touches can be given to the best kitchen you've had in a while.
